Ensure Safety & Call 911

Call a loud "CEASE FIRE!". Unload all firearms. Ensure the shooter and surroundings are safe before approaching the patient.

Activate 911 Immediately

Find the Source of Bleeding

Expose the wound. Cut or tear clothing. Identify arterial spurting, pooling blood, or clothing soaked in blood.

Look for Pooling & Spurting

Compress: Pressure or Tourniquet

ਦਬਾਓ: ਟੂਰਨੀਕੇਟ ਜਾਂ ਗੌਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਪੈਕਿੰਗ

Arms & legs: Apply a tourniquet 2-3 inches above the wound. Neck, groin, armpit: Pack firmly with gauze and hold continuous bodyweight pressure.

Extremity Trauma Only

Step 1: Placement (High & Tight)

Place 2–3 inches above the bleeding site. If in doubt or under extreme duress, place it "high and tight" on the limb (highest point on the arm or thigh).

ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮ ਤੋਂ ੨-੩ ਇੰਚ ਉੱਪਰ ਲਗਾਓ। ਜੇ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਪੱਟ ਜਾਂ ਬਾਂਹ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ 'ਤੇ ਲਗਾਓ। ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਗੋਡੇ ਜਾਂ ਕੂਹਣੀ ਦੇ ਜੋੜ ਉੱਤੇ ਨਾ ਲਗਾਓ।

Step 2: Pull Band Fully Tight Before Twisting

Pull the strap as tight as humanly possible before engaging the windlass rod. There should not be room to slide three fingers underneath.

Step 3: Twist the Windlass Until Bleeding Stops

Twist until the bright red spurting completely stops and the distal pulse disappears. Lock the windlass in the clip. It will be painful; reassure the patient.

ਰੌਡ ਨੂੰ ਉਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਘੁਮਾਓ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਖੂਨ ਵਹਿਣਾ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਬੰਦ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ। ਫਿਰ ਰੌਡ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਕ ਕਰੋ।

Step 4: Record Time on Time-Strap (NEVER Loosen)

Write the exact time (e.g. T: 14:15) on the white Velcro strap. NEVER loosen or take off a tourniquet once placed; only emergency physicians can safely remove it.

1. Placement Gap 2–3" Above Wound (Not on Joint)

2. Initial Velcro Pull PULL MAX TIGHT before twisting

3. Windlass Twist 2–3 full turns until pulse stops

4. Time Strap Write "T - HH:MM" (Never loosen)

Second Tourniquet Rule:

If the first tourniquet does not completely stop the bleeding, apply a second tourniquet directly above the first one (closer to the torso).

Warning: Counterfeit tourniquets from generic online sellers break under stress. Only use authentic CoTCCC-approved brands (CAT, SOFTT-W, SAM XT).

💡 Pro-tip: Assign one person to meet the ambulance at the main highway entrance gate to guide emergency crews directly to the firing lane.
